About Greencastle

Greencastle perches at the tip of the Inishowen Peninsula where the Atlantic meets Lough Foyle, commanding views across to Northern Ireland just kilometres away. The R238 coastal road from Moville offers the most direct route, a 15-kilometre drive hugging the lough's shoreline, while those coming from Derry follow the same road for about 25 kilometres through Muff. From Letterkenny, take the N13 to Bridgend then connect to the R238, roughly 45 minutes through Donegal countryside. The ruins of a 14th-century castle built by Richard de Burgh, the Red Earl of Ulster, give the village its name and stand guard over the narrow entrance to the lough.
