About Eskdale

Eskdale runs through the Lake District's most remote valley, accessed via minor roads from the A595 near Holmrook or the challenging Hardknott Pass from Ambleside. The narrow-gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, nicknamed "La'al Ratty," has carried passengers through this dramatic fell country since 1875, making it England's oldest working narrow-gauge line.
