Elwood is a small farming town of about 1,000 people in northeast Kansas, right where Kansas meets Missouri and Nebraska. Highway 36 is the main route, connecting to Kansas City about 45 miles southeast via I-435. Most visitors are regional travelers using Highway 36 as a northern alternative to I-70. The town sits near the original Fort Leavenworth site from the 1820s.
