Dungannon
Ireland
Dungannon perches on a hill in County Tyrone, offering grand views across Mid-Ulster. The M1 motorway connects you to Belfast in about an hour, while longer drives reach Londonderry, Cavan, and Westport easily enough. No railway station here, so you'll need the car. Once the seat of the mighty O'Neill dynasty until 1607, the town was later replanted during the Ulster Plantation. Today it's a busy commercial hub with major food processing industries. A simple grass mound in the town center marks where the O'Neill castle once commanded all of Ulster.
