De Kelders

De Kelders, just past Gansbaai on the R43 along the Overberg coast, is prime spot for shore-based whale watching, with southern rights calving close to the cliffs from June to November. Reach it via the N2 through Caledon and Bot River, or straight along the coast from Hermanus, 42 km off. Locals hop between Gansbaai, Kleinbaai and Franskraalstrand daily, while visitors travel in from as far as Springbok and Kanoneiland. About 6 fast chargers are on hand nearby. Don't miss Klipgat Cave, with Stone Age human remains cut into the cliffside.
