3About Clonony
Clonony is a small settlement in County Offaly, about 5 kilometres southwest of Birr along the River Shannon's eastern bank. Most drivers take the R440 from Birr town centre, though you can also reach it via the M6 to Kilbeggan, then the R357 through Ferbane. The area sits in typical Shannon basin countryside with flat farmland and old peat bogs. The main attraction is Clonony Castle, a well-preserved 16th-century tower house that rises four storeys above the floodplain. There are about 10 fast EV charging points around Birr for electric vehicles.
