Carter Springs is a tiny Nevada community of about 500 people in Douglas County's Carson Valley, surrounded by the Sierra Nevada and Pine Nut mountains. Located along US Highway 395 about 45 miles south of Reno, it serves mainly long-distance travelers heading between Northern and Southern California. The high desert location experiences hot summers and snowy mountain winters. Carter Springs gets its name from the natural springs that once provided crucial water for travelers crossing this arid valley.
