Carlingford sits on the southern shore of Carlingford Lough in County Louth, facing the Mourne Mountains across the water. The medieval town connects to Dublin via the M1 and N1 through Dundalk, about 20 kilometers southwest, with the journey taking roughly 25 minutes on country roads. From Belfast, drivers cross at Newry and follow the coastal A2/R173.
