Byrness
England
Byrness is a tiny Northumberland village on the A68, the main England-Scotland route through the Cheviot Hills. It's roughly halfway between Newcastle and Edinburgh, making it a popular fuel stop for long-distance drivers. The surrounding moorland can be bleak in winter, with frequent snow affecting the main road. The village hosts England's most remote Youth Hostel in a converted Victorian shooting lodge.
