Brown Edge perches on high ground between Stoke-on-Trent and the moorlands, straddling the A53 Leek road about six kilometres from the city centre. This former pit village commands excellent views across the Potteries toward the Peak District. Most visitors arrive via Junction 16 of the M6, following the A500 then A53 northbound, whilst the direct route from Newcastle-under-Lyme uses the A53 throughout. The preserved Chatterley Whitfield headframe dominates the skyline as a monument to the area's mining heritage.
