About Badbea, Highland

Badbea perches dramatically on Caithness cliffs along the A99, part of the famous North Coast 500. Most visitors approach via the A9 from Inverness (100km) before joining the coastal road at Latheron. The settlement's most haunting feature is the ruins of a clearance village where 19th-century families lived so close to the cliff edge that children were tethered with ropes to stop them being blown into the North Sea.
