Ashtead Common

Ashtead Common is a 500-acre stretch of ancient Surrey heathland reached via the A24 from Junction 9 of the M25. The area combines open grassland with oak and birch woodland, supporting diverse wildlife including rare butterflies and birds. Popular with walkers and nature enthusiasts, it offers free parking along Woodfield Lane, though spaces are limited at weekends. The restored 18th-century windmill stands as a distinctive landmark across the heath.
