Anderson sits along I-85 in northwestern South Carolina's foothills, about halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte. The city serves as a convenient stop for long-distance travelers and a hub for short trips to nearby Clemson University (15 miles via US 76) and Lake Hartwell's mountain communities (via scenic Highway 28 north). Anderson Regional Airport lies 3 miles southwest of downtown, handling mostly private aircraft. The city's claim to fame is the massive Anderson Jockey Lot and Farmers Market, a weekend flea market that's been packing in bargain hunters every Friday and Saturday since 1958.
