Abbotrule is a small Borders village on the A6088, about 11km northwest of Jedburgh. Most visitors arrive via the A68 and local connecting roads, whilst daily traffic uses shorter routes from Bonchester Bridge and surrounding settlements. The rolling countryside offers typical Border scenery of farms and woodland. The village name derives from a long-vanished medieval abbey.
