Thorne lies eight miles northeast of Doncaster in South Yorkshire's flat wetlands. The M18 Junction 6 puts you two miles from the centre via the A614, whilst the A18 brings local traffic from Doncaster. The town sits where several waterways meet, and you'll still see working barges passing through the centre beneath the old swing bridge.
