Stone Mountain is a small Georgia city built around the famous granite dome 16 miles east of Atlanta. Reach it via US Highway 78 from downtown Atlanta or Interstate 285 from the north or south. The massive rock formation rises 825 feet above the surrounding area and houses a popular state park with hiking trails, a scenic railroad, and evening laser shows. The mountain features the world's largest bas-relief carving carved directly into its north face.
