The village sits on the B6255 between Hawes and Ingleton, with most visitors arriving via the A684 from Sedbergh or the M6. These high routes can close in winter, whilst approximately twelve public fast chargers support electric vehicles tackling the challenging terrain. The village's distinctive limestone buildings, hewn from local quarries, give Stone House its name.
