Springvale lies in Hampshire's Itchen valley, just north of Winchester amongst the chalk downs. Access is via the A34 from Winchester, connecting north to Oxford or south to Southampton, with the B3047 providing local links through the Worthy villages. Natural springs feeding the River Itchen give the settlement its name, with several chalk-filtered sources still visible today.
