Southcote forms part of Reading's western suburbs in Berkshire, easily reached via the A4 from the M4 at Junction 12. The area developed around older canal-side settlements as Reading expanded, creating a mix of residential estates near the River Kennet. Historic sections of the Kennet and Avon Canal still wind through the area, with working narrowboats moored along the original waterway.
