South Chailey lies along the A275 between Brighton and Lewes in East Sussex, about 15km north of the coast. The village sits amid typical South Downs countryside of chalk hills and woodland, with good access to both the A23 London-Brighton route and the A27 coastal road. The settlement occupies part of the ancient Winchester-Canterbury ridgeway, with sections of this historic track still traceable as footpaths across the surrounding downland.
