Skinnet perches on Scotland's remote northern coast in Sutherland, part of a cluster of tiny settlements including nearby Melness and Talmine. Reach it via the A99 from Thurso or A838 through Tongue, though both routes end in challenging single-track roads with passing places. The three-hour drive from Inverness makes this a destination for serious Highland explorers rather than day-trippers. Most distinctive is its position on the tidal causeway system, where the connecting road vanishes underwater at high tide.
