Shire is a small Cumbrian village in the Eden Valley, reached via the A686 from Penrith (Junction 40 off the M6). The scenic route passes through typical fell country with stone walls and scattered farms. Electric vehicle charging is available nearby with about 15 public fast chargers in the area. St. Bartholomew's church houses rare surviving medieval wall paintings.
