Shannon Harbour
Ireland
Ireland
Shannon Harbour in County Offaly marks where the Grand Canal meets the River Shannon, creating Ireland's most important inland port from the 1750s onwards. The village sits 15 kilometers northeast of Banagher on the R356, about 90 minutes from Dublin via the M6 and R446 through Edenderry. From Galway, it's roughly an hour east via Ballinasloe. The original limestone quays and lock gates from the 1750s still stand perfectly preserved, where narrow boats continue to moor just as cargo vessels once did bound for the capital.
