Scawton

Scawton is a tiny North Yorkshire village tucked into the Hambleton Hills, reached via country lanes off the A170 between Thirsk and Helmsley. The route from Helmsley passes Rievaulx Abbey and offers particularly lovely moorland views. It's perfectly positioned for exploring the surrounding dales and serves as a quiet base near Byland Abbey. The village church houses remarkable medieval wall paintings, discovered hidden under centuries-old whitewash.
