Scanlon is a small Carlton County city about 20 miles southwest of Duluth along the St. Louis River. Highway 210 runs right through town, connecting east to Duluth and west toward Brainerd, with most visitors taking this route from I-35. The town of 1,100 sits among mixed forests and farmland in northern Minnesota's river valley. Its standout feature is the historic Art Deco Greysolon Plaza from the 1920s.
