Sanaigmore perches on Islay's western edge, where Atlantic winds shape both landscape and character. Reach it via CalMac ferry to Port Ellen, then the A846 north through Bridgend before branching west on the A847. The 45-minute drive passes whisky country, with Kilchoman and Bruichladdich distilleries marking the route. Most visitors combine coastal walks with distillery tours, whilst locals use shorter routes north to Gruinart's renowned bird reserve. The beach here boasts a perfect crescent of white sand fringed by machair grassland.
