Ribblehead lies beneath Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales, reached via the B6255 from Ingleton or through Horton in Ribblesdale from the A65. Long-distance visitors typically drive from Manchester or Leeds, whilst locals use it as a base for fell walking. The settlement centres on the iconic 24-arch Ribblehead Viaduct, completed in 1874 for the Settle-Carlisle railway.
