Retford sits astride the River Idle in north Nottinghamshire, just off the A1 at Junction 34. The A57 cuts through town, linking Sheffield with Lincoln, whilst the A638 heads south to Newark. The place is famous for having two separate market squares, East and West Retford, connected by an ancient bridge over the river.
