Purley occupies elevated ground in south London, straddling the A23 Brighton Road with excellent rail links to Victoria and London Bridge. The M25 lies 8km south via Coulsdon, whilst local routes connect through Croydon and toward the Surrey Hills. The town's Victorian railway signal box remains one of the few still operating on the London-Brighton line.
