Pekin is a farming town of 62 people in north-central North Dakota, about 45 miles west of Grand Forks via US Highway 2 and State Highway 35. The community sits in Nelson County's wheat country along the Sheyenne River valley. Its century-old wooden grain elevator still operates and towers over the surrounding prairie.
