Pauntley is a small Gloucestershire village between the Severn Vale and Forest of Dean, reached via the A417 from Gloucester or the M50 motorway. Gloucestershire Airport sits nearby, making it unusually accessible for such a rural spot. The village church houses a superb 14th-century wooden effigy of Sir John de Pauntley, considered among the county's finest medieval carvings.
