Palatine is a small riverside spot in County Carlow, about 80 kilometres southwest of Dublin along the River Barrow. You'll reach it via the M9 south from Dublin, then the R448 toward Carlow, or up the N9 from Waterford through Thomastown. The R417 connects it to Carlow town just a few kilometres north. The River Barrow flows through the community on its way to the Irish Sea, and local anglers swear by the brown trout fishing here, especially during evening rises near the old stone bridge when the insects are hatching.
