Middlewood occupies a quiet spot along the Exe Estuary between Exeter and Dawlish, easily reached via the A379 coastal road or through Exminster on the A376. The M5 at Junction 30 provides the main link for longer journeys, whilst local traffic flows between nearby Cockwood, Starcross and Dawlish Warren. Exeter Airport sits about 20 kilometres northeast, and there are over 100 EV charging points across the area. The village enjoys clear views across the estuary to Powderham Castle and its ancient deer park.
