Mellon Charles perches beside Loch Ewe in Wester Ross, a tiny Highland settlement that's perfectly placed for exploring this dramatic stretch of coast. The A832 from Inverness (90km) provides the main access, winding through spectacular mountain scenery, whilst the southern approach via Glen Shiel and Kinlochewe offers equally stunning views. The village name derives from Gaelic "Meall nan Ceàrr" - hill of the left-handed people.
