Mayfield lies 15 kilometres southeast of Edinburgh in Midlothian's former mining heartland. The A7 provides direct access via Dalkeith, whilst the A720 bypass connects to the M8 for Glasgow or A1 southbound. Local routes include the B6482 linking neighbouring pit villages like Newtongrange. Over 150 EV charging points serve the area. The red sandstone Gothic church from 1888 dominates the village centre with its prominent spire.
