Matley lies in Greater Manchester between Tameside and the Peak District foothills. The A57 provides the main access route from Manchester, connecting to the M67 at Junction 4, whilst the A628 trans-Pennine route links to Sheffield. Manchester Airport is 20 miles southwest. The area has excellent EV infrastructure with over 250 fast chargers nearby, and neighbouring Mottram in Longdendale features a striking 15th-century parish church.
