Maiden is a small foothills city in western North Carolina, about 45 miles northwest of Charlotte via Highway 321. The main route connects north to Hickory in 8 miles or south toward Charlotte, with I-40 running 10 miles south for longer trips. Most visitors arrive from the Charlotte area or from Hickory, using Highway 321 as the primary corridor. The restored 1905 Southern Railway depot downtown now serves as the town's visitor center and museum.
