Maghera lies on the A6 between Belfast and Derry, making it a natural waypoint for cross-country journeys. The town sits amid rolling Mid Ulster countryside, with the Sperrins rising to the west and Lough Neagh stretching eastward. Local routes connect to Draperstown, Tobermore, and Upperlands, whilst the M2 provides motorway access from Belfast. The 17th-century church on Main Street houses a remarkable 10th-century Celtic cross slab in its ancient graveyard.
