Madrid is a tiny farming community in southeastern Alabama, about 15 miles northeast of Dothan via State Route 52. Most visitors arrive through Dothan on US Highway 84, then take local roads through cotton country and pine forests. The 220-person town sits in the wiregrass region's rolling hills, where summer heat dominates the climate. Despite sharing a name with Spain's capital, locals say "MAD-rid" with the emphasis on the first syllable.
