Mackinaw City is where I-75 ends at the Straits of Mackinac, serving as the gateway to Mackinac Island and the Upper Peninsula. This small lakeside town gets busy in summer as visitors arrive from Detroit, Grand Rapids, and beyond via the interstate or the scenic US-23 along Lake Huron. It's the departure point for ferries to car-free Mackinac Island, where horses still outnumber cars.
