Lake Preston is a small farming town of 600 people in east-central South Dakota, serving as Kingsbury County's seat. Drive there via US Highway 14 from either Brookings (25 miles west) or Huron (40 miles east), then take Highway 1 north. The town sits on the shores of a natural glacial lake and features one of South Dakota's few remaining 19th-century courthouses still in active use, built in 1904.
