Kirn occupies a scenic spot on the Cowal Peninsula's western shore, just south of Dunoon on the Firth of Clyde. Access involves either the A815 through winding Highland scenery or the more popular Western Ferries crossing from Gourock to nearby Hunters Quay. The town's Victorian pier continues to serve CalMac ferries, preserving a 150-year-old transport tradition across the firth.
