Kirkbampton is a small Cumbrian village about 10 miles southwest of Carlisle, reached via the A596 and local roads from the M6's Junction 44. The village sits on the Solway Plain among green pastures, with the Lake District fells visible to the southeast. It lies within an ancient parish that once covered a much larger area of the Scottish borderlands.
