Kilronan (Cill Rónáin)

Kilronan is the main port on Inishmore, reached by ferry from Rossaveal (40km west of Galway via R336) or Doolin in Clare. From Galway, take the N59 then R336 through Connemara, about 45 minutes through stone-walled countryside. Dublin drivers use the M6 and M18 to Galway first, roughly 250km total. The harbour has a lovely stone pier where traditional black currachs moor beside fishing boats, all set against white cottage walls. Once on the 14km-long island, you'll get about by bike, pony trap, or minibus.
