Kilmeny sits in central Islay, reached via the A846 after the ferry crossing from Kennacraig. The village serves as a quiet base for exploring the island's distilleries and coastal areas, with Port Askaig ferry terminal just six kilometres away. Most journeys on Islay are short local runs between distilleries and villages. The surrounding peat bogs still provide traditional fuel cut by hand each spring.
