Kilmeage sits on the R415 between Naas and Kildare town, making it a handy stop for anyone touring County Kildare's horse country. The M7 motorway runs just north of the village, connecting it to Dublin in about 45 minutes and onward to Cork or Limerick. Most folk arrive from nearby Naas or Newbridge for the shopping at Kildare Outlet Village or a round at the K Club's championship courses. The name comes from "Cill Mheadha," meaning "church of the mead," a nod to the area's old honey-making traditions.
