Killimordaly

Killimordaly sits in County Galway, accessible via the R446 which runs between Athenry to the north and Gort to the south. From Dublin, take the M6 west to Athenry, then follow the R446 south for about 15 kilometres. The village lies roughly 35 kilometres from Galway city through rolling farmland marked by stone walls and green pastures. The area features typical limestone karst terrain with occasional turloughs, those seasonal lakes that appear and disappear with the water table. What sets Killimordaly apart is its collection of well-preserved ancient ring forts scattered across the countryside, circular stone fortifications that have stood for over a thousand years.
