Killichonan lies in remote Rannoch country, reached via the B846 from Kinloch Rannoch and the A9. This tiny Highland settlement sits beside Loch Rannoch amongst ancient pines and open moorland. Long-distance visitors face several hours' driving through increasingly wild terrain, whilst local routes serve scattered communities along the lochside. The name means "church of the horses" in Gaelic.
