Kilkelly

Kilkelly is a quiet crossroads town in County Mayo, about 15 kilometers northeast of Knock and handy to Ireland West Airport. The N17 runs right through the area, connecting easily to Dublin via the M4 and M6 through Athlone, or north from Galway through Tuam. Local roads like the R323 branch off to serve the farming communities around here. The town sits near where the famous Kilkelly Letters were written in the 1860s, those heartbreaking notes between Irish emigrants in America and their families that inspired the well-known folk song about leaving Ireland.
