Invernaver occupies a remote stretch of Sutherland's north coast where the River Naver reaches the Atlantic. Access is via the A836 coastal road from Thurso, or the inland A836 from Lairg through challenging Flow Country terrain. The area endures fierce Atlantic weather but offers dramatic coastal scenery. This valley witnessed some of Scotland's most brutal Highland Clearances in the early 1800s.
